The Florida Orange Co. a Florida lifestyle brand offering fresh picked goods for all seasons, releases its flagship Florida Orange Trucker just in time for Fall.
Quality materials, attention to detail, and a taste for the more leisurely things in life, Florida Orange Co. is all about enjoying the fruits of your labor. Off rips I love how Florida this drop is, taking back the Orange to the state that made it famous. On first glance you just notice the white, orange, and green color scheme, but that hit of blue towards the center adds so much.
Really solid inaugural release from the Florida Orange Co. The ad campaign for this drop was crazy, and I do hope one day we can eat that film screened at the Prx Jit Cinema. This first trucker already has that statement piece vibe, building anticipation for the brands next drop.
Six of Tampa Bays top designers come together under one roof for the “THRESHOLD” fashion exhibition at The Factory, featuring Pollex World, LittleBull4U, Cowboy By Takeo, Muse By Pablo, Garbäj Clothing, and Made By Moose.
Threshold- The Place or point of entering or beginning. Despite doing game chaining work in the past, all the designers are stepping up their game to push the boundaries of their art even forward.
LittleBull4U always brings top tier cuts and fabrics to her design. Many of the pieces have that nomad vibe to them, allowing them to be worn in all climates and situations. If the tease of the color schemes Candice will be using in the show doesn’t get you hype, seeing them in the flesh will.
Cowboy By Takeo has been on one heck of a run so far in 2022, from dream collabs to the Somewhere Store retail space, fam is on it. I know the homie has been working hard on some signature pieces for the show.
Moose as been going crazy with the jewelry as of late, but don’t get it twisted he can’t still whip up a whole fit from scratch. I am curious to see how his jewelry will be incorporated into the show, as well as how the models rock the pieces.
Pollex World always brings us comfort with their designs. It always seems to be just what we need without us even knowing it at the time. Besides the pieces I am hype to see what Pollex brings as far as their presentation goes.
The good people over at Garbäj Clothing will be blessing us with some brand new designs of their own. I missed the last Garbäj show that was held over at Coastal some time ago but I will be front and center for this experience.
It’s been a minute since Muse By Pablo has done a fashion show, brining expectations through the roof. They got the short game on lock but I am excited to see what new cuts and pieces the dynamic duo brings to the show.
Sounds will be curated by the one and only DJ Donnie Luv. Donnie has been in her bag as of late dropping her own live mixes as well as $lugg Mixes here and there. She set the vibe at the last LittleBull4U event, and I expect this to be no different.
Lucky Tigre will be in the building, mixing up some game changing food combinations that will have your pallet drooling for more. I know they try to make a curated menu to match each event they are at but I know if Takeo had anything to say about it that Okonomiyaki will be on the menu.
What more can I say this is some big energy right here! The fact that all these amazing designers will all be under one room is an achievement in itself. There’s no way you can bitch about Tampa Bay not having a thriving fashion scene with events like this being meticulously executed. Pick up your tickets today and catch me in VIP on 9/17 at The Factory from 5-10 p.m.
One of Weef’s founding fathers Matt Galloway releases a solo shirt drop titled “If We Love Each Other”, spreading positive vibes in all shapes in sizes.
I am big fan of the vibe and esthetic Matt and the rest of the Weef Boys have been creating over the past few years, so I was hype to see what Matt could bring on his own. I have seen a bunch of his film references in his past works, so working in a different style peeked my interest.
These 37 all unique hand printed tees on vintage camo harkens back to that Florida man esthetic Weef taps into time to time. The fact that each pattern and print is different makes each piece stand as a solo art piece. These bad boys are going for $25 in a variety of sizes.
I am a huge cinephile so when I got eyes on this “The Holy Mountain” tote bag it hit all the right buttons. Featuring some of my favorite stills from the film, this is a no brainer for all film freaks and Jodorowsky followers alike.
Whether is his solo work or his work on Weef, Matt Galloway is doing some incredible work, bridging the gap on what we consider art and fashion. Weef The People!
After killing every feature he has been on over the past two years or so I felt it was right to shout out one of my favorite emcees in the Tampa Bay Hip Hop Scene, Jay Browne. In this article I will be ranking Browne’s Top 5 Feature Verses thus far.
It was hard to narrow it down to five records but I feel these tracks showcase just how versatile of an emcee Browne is, as well as the caliber of emcees that put him on the track.
One of my favorite tracks off Frank’s “Angels EP”, “No Bonnie” was a different take on the “Me & My Girlfriend” style track from greats like Pac and Hov. Browne has spit about trifling women before on past tracks but this one he’s standing above all that, not letting any woman get in the way of his paper and his career.
Barley Legal’s “Dat Way” is a song of the year contender. I am not sure there are many other tracks that get both sides of the bay so it had to make the list. The tables turn a bit for Jay on this track as he brings the gravitas to the track, building on his already tight relationship with the Barely Legal Collective.
At the “2 Much 2 Robb” album listening party Gat$ and Jordan Patrick said they wanted to give Jay Browne a beat that was a bit different than the usual production he goes over. In return we get one of my favorite tracks off the album and by far one of Browne’s best verses of the year. Jxpvtty comes through with that wrapped wonky production. Once the beat really starts going Browne just hits this pocket, especially on that “In My Lifetime” line. We need visuals for this joint by the way.
In my mind this joint is already a 813 Classic. The old school and the new school come together on Scxtt Aye’s “Diamonds” of the 813 Essential album “Doves”. It’s a toss who really had a better verse on the track, which is one of the highest compliments you can give knowing how much respect Browne and the city has for Scxtt Aye. I really love the way Browne starts off his first with the “Who is him, who is me, who am I” line. We need a video for this classic A$AP!
This shit right here mane was made for the Bucs to run out of the tunnel. The Pusha Preme connection brought Browne’s confidence and game to the next level on their immortal 813 classic track “Never Thought”. I dig how Browne slows his verse down a bit towards the beginning but then once shit gets rolling you got no choice but to get hype.
Feature verses like these have only catapulted Jay Browne to the top of the pack when it comes to this Tampa Bay Hip Hop shit. Every time you see Jay Browne featured on a track you know he is bringing pressure, building anticipation for his next solo effort. The top might not be his at the moment but it doesn’t take a psychic to see that the Tampa Bay Hip Hop throne will be his soon enough.
Continuing the new Producer Spotlight series where we take a look at producers and beat makers doing their thing in the Tampa Bay Area I wanted to showcase someone you have probably heard featured on a verse or on the beat for some of your favorite artists in the scene 7spellz.
7pellz can’t really be tied down to one style or sound. Sometimes he’s on his boom bap sample style tip, other times he can be on his cloud rap shit, often bringing that dark revered sound SGP was known for back in the day. In this piece I will pick out a few of my favorite beats the homie has dropped released and unreleased, going through the whole gamut.
I believe one of the first 7spellz tracks I heard was his joint off Drogotdoe & 9henom’s collab album “Take Da Globe”. First off that sample he used sounds like it was from a Giallo Film or something off Alchemist’s “Russian Roulette”, a vibe for sure. The way the sample blends with the hard hitting 808s is a sign of true skill.
I dig the atmospheric tone of this beat, it doesn’t have a name but I call it “Valhalla”. The drums aren’t as hard hitting but that allows you to just take a ride into space with all the laid back sound.
Spellz takes a more Boom Bap approach on this track I call “Treasure Planet”. I feel Spellz is more at home on the wrapped SGP style production or the cloudy stuff, but he really holds his own with the boom bap sound. I would like to hear some more boom bap vibes in the future.
The homie goes back on his Cloud Rap shit for “Road Less Traveled”. The backing synth loop is really dope, allowing you to engage with the beat instantly. I could see a few people on this track but I feel Drogotdoe would slide it the hardest.
I dig this track because it blends the cloud rap with the boom bap. Reminiscent of something the Souls Of Mischief would spit on back in the day, I dig the somber laid back vibe of the track. I would like to hear Junkyrd on this one.
7spellz has tons of heat that he has unleashed onto the world, so peep his various pages to check out more of his beats. With some of my favorite artists in the city still yet to drop, it’s only a matter of time before we see a new 7spellz placement soon.
The Black Alchemist Onlyonetwo ascends to a higher plain after mastering the fifth element “Aether”.
Aether the fifth element is the material that fills the region of the universe beyond the terrestrial sphere. After dropping one of my favorite albums of the year, I knew Two wasn’t going to pull any punches, on this one he’s coming for heads, and bringing the homies along with him.
“Magic (Heka)” was the perfect intro for the project. Of rips we know Two isn’t playing, his flow is so cold on this one, you can feel the confidence in every bar. Not many people can make memorable hooks for their own track but Two does it every time with ease. That Rey Mysterio line was a stand out. It would be dope to see a video for this joint.
“2 Much 2 Lose” slows things down a bit, but Two is still talking that talk. The hook on this one might be one of my favorites Two has done to date. Those piano keys on the beat are slamming, adding to the jiggy vibe of the track. Two puts us onto game at the end of the song.
“Months” featuring Big Mochino is a song you can just ride out to. The wavy production is hard hitting, yet ethereal. Big Mochino pulls up on the track, adding some gravitas with that money talk. This is my favorite beat on the whole production, the high energy gives off an anthem vibe on the hook.
“Sphinx Talk” brings back the piano, but on a more somber vibe. Two speeds up his flow a tad on the track but he rides the beat either way. The hook is my favorite part of the song, especially when that guitar kicks in the background.
“What’s Real” takes us through Two’s life, discussing the people in his life that gave him the foundation he continues to this day. Bro always keeps it real in his raps, unlike most of the people in the game.
The homie Jha Asjawn comes through on “Street Pain”, holding his own with Onlyonetwo. You can really hear Two’s emotion on the hook, allowing the listener to connect more with the song. Many other of Two’s projects feature a lot of guitar but this project is more piano based.
“Gossip” brings thing a bit to the dark side, with Two dealing with falling in love with demons and fake homies. That Unkle Luc line was so fire. Two just sounds so focused on this joint, it’s straight bars, pretty much going no hook until the end of the track.
“Don’t Hurt Me” has Two on his vulnerable side, something he hasn’t been shy to speak about on tracks, but this time it sounds like it’s coming from a place of real loss. The little splash of reggae vibes gives the song a bit of an island vibe to it, which could come off corny if not executed right but Two nails it.
“Wanted” featuring the homie W R E C K A is one of my favorite tracks off the project. I dig the more down under style of guitar production. There’s always mad quotables when W R E C K A shows up on a track. That goblet line of the hook is a memorable one for sure.
The project ends on a dark note with “Altercation”. The song could either be about an internal altercation with one’s self or a physical person. People be nosey as hell, so I can definitely relate with Two on this track. Two has been through hard times before, and he always comes out on top, even stronger than before.
Onlyonetwo continues to showcase why he is the premier emcee not only on the Tampa Bay Hip Hop side of things, but in the entire game. Who else is dropping their best work to date and the following it up with another full project of bangers right after. With a few months still left in the year, I am sure Two isn’t done applying that pressure just yet.
Sage The Fox comes through on “Sage The World (Lightyear)”, delivering Darkaire a cornerstone project they can build off of.
The project kicks things off with “Intro (Bigger Than Us”, a menacing intro that I can almost guarantee was produced by Dr.Dredd. The instrumental sets the tone for what we have in store for the rest of the project.
“Dig Deep” is one of those fast paced tracks Sage always shines on. You’ll be ready for war after bumping this track. I dig the cloudy fast paced production, it sounds like some Rainbow Road shit. After “Demon Slayer” this should be the next video. I can see Sage running down Ybor or Central Ave with his army, while squad ready.
“Demon Slayer” is the lead single of the project, and its safe to say its one of Sage’s best track. Bringing back that fast paced vibe, it’s hard to tell if Sage is slaying these hoes or his real life demons. Sage’s flow on the final verse is my favorite part of the track. We need a video for this one A$AP! You can’t help but bang your head to this one.
“Do Not Disturb” should start off all of Sage’s live sets. I can see this one getting heavy rotation at the gym. That slurm line was pretty dope. I like how the beat switches up a bit towards the mid point of the track. This one is destined to be the fan favorite off the album. When the beat fades out towards the end is one of my favorite moments on the project.
Have you ever seen a fox in a Monclear Coat? “Monclear Fox” is deep down a smoking track. Unless you dang you definitely can’t hit this Za. It would dope to see Breezy Montclair pop up on the remix. The “You Can’t Hit This” hook will be running through your head for days. The rhyme scheme Sage uses towards the end of the first verse is one of my favorites on the project. Known for his fast paced songs, it was dope to hear Sage slow things down at the end.
“Jason Bourne” is a more light hearted track than anything else on the album, which was a nice change of pace at this point in the album.
“WLML (Women Lie, Men Lie)” has a fire almost Egyptian style beat. Sage kills it on the vocals of the hook brining his tone up and down. The rhyme schemes are crazy on this one, but the best flow happens on the first verse. One of my favorite Sage tracks to date. I see an “Arabian Nights” Belly Dancer strip club type vibe for this video.
The project closes out on “LnM”. Off rips I mess with the cloudy atmospheric production. Sage’s flow is a bit hazy but it fits well with the beat. I feel Sage usually ends his projects on more introspective tracks like this one. Bro can really spit that street life when he wants to.
Following up “Genesis” with “Sage The World” was a tough task but Sage exceeded expectations. Like I said in the intro this project is gonna be one of those pillars we look at when we bring up Darkaire, and their impact on the Tampa Bay Scene. I am really hype to hear what’s next from the label as well as what Sage will release onto the world next, especially with my favorite track “Boffum” still waiting for a project to land on.
Fresh off their Miami Pop Up a few weeks back, the homies from REACH have been in the lab working on two dope new tee drops, as well as their first dive into a female REACH line.
First off let’s get into this staple tee. Basically a reverse of the colors the brand is known for, you can go wrong with this tee. I would like the see a black version of this with red font eventually drop but this one would be right at home at a Bucs game.
The “Ring Of Hands” is a reoccurring theme in the work of REACH. From the real life version in their OG “Air REACH” campaign, to the 1 of 1 bag they have teased out in the past.
Out of the entire drop I would have to go with the black and white joint. The white tee is dope for sure but black just stays cleaner longer allowing me to rock it year round. But if you really want to flex picking up both is a solid option.
The Royal Blue tee with the red hands would be my second choice. REACH hasn’t really messed with this color combo in the past so it was refreshing to see some new colors thrown into the mix.
Over the past few months we have gotten a few sneak peaks of the upcoming REACH Women’s line that will be dropping soon. To date I believe there are only a few 1 of 1 pieces that were available including the “Scab Denim” piece pictured above.
It’s dope to see the evolution of the brand in such a short time. I feel the new female line of pieces will really take off, with many of them already selling out. REACH always stays on brand, doing it their way. Everything is Made In REACH.
REACH is always putting me on to the hottest brands in and outside of the city, often using the shop has a pop up hub for those brands. It’s been a minute but finally there is a new Pop Up at REACH this time featuring here2inspire.
Not much is known about here2inspire but from what I can see that have kicked things off with their inaugural tee shirt drop believed to be titled “Distorted Reality” featuring cream and black color ways.
Personally being a fan of more grey or off white colors I would most likely go with the “Distorted Reality Cream” tee but I really mess with the designs on each shirt. The way the brownish graphic fits on the cream tee is a vibe for sure.
You can’t go wrong with the black color way either though. The white graphic crates a yin and yang effect on the black tee. If they could some incorporate a grey shirt with a purple graphic on an upcoming tee I would pick it up for sure.
I am really digging the vibe of here2inspire. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the brand, as well as how they are able to build their world in upcoming collections and campaigns. Pull up to REACH Sept 10 to get that exclusive experience.
Now that things have finally cooled down a bit, my favorite monthly event the Backlot Breakfast Club returns with a live streaming of the Italian F1 GP, as well as the coffee and cars per usual.
Just being at the studio is a vibe alone, not to mention chilling with the homies and who ever else pulls up to the studio, you really never know who will pull up. Whenever they have had the Gumball races or just car footage in general on the projector in the studio it always peaks my interest, so it will be a nice opportunity to catch the race with friends.
I am more of a matcha or chai tea guy but Bandit will be on hand serving up the cities best coffee. Check out the SAFDS X Bandit limited roast that was curated by Scott and the good people over at Bandit. Take home a bag or two to hold you over until the October event.
Always a pleasure when Gypsy Stems pops up to the events. It’s always a dope reminder to pick up something for one of your loved ones, even if it’s just a small bouquet, Gypsy Stems always gets me right no matter what budget I am working with.
Word on the street is DJ Bookster and the rest of the Dog Radio Soundsystem will be running the 1s and 2s for the event, especially with Digitalcasket & Abstractpoet in the building you know its going down, bark bark!
SAFDS Studio tees and crewnecks will be available to have you looking fresh for all seasons. Coming in black and white color ways the tees are A1 quality and have a nice fit that works well in all climates. Rumor has it there’s an exclusive Gallardo X SAFDS grey piece making my it’s way around the burg. You already know that joint is collab of the year fam.
Like I said The Backlot Breakfast Club is my favorite monthly event to go to when it’s in season. I look at it as my monthly commitment but in the best way possible. Can’t tell you how many dope moments and memories I have shared at the Breakfast Club and that’s only after year one. Big shout out to Scott, Marti, and Laurent for always making us feel at home and throwing a must attend event every month.
